moissanite is not a FAKE diamond. it does not try to pass off as a diamond. you people are comparing it to a knockoff designer handbag. Moissanite is moissanite, period.

people prefer moissanite for many reasons. maybe it's a cost factor. for a lot of people, myself included, I do not see the point of spending hoards of money on a fancy rock. if you care what others think, those that DO see your ring aren't going to examine it under a microscope and nag you if its "fake". Or maybe they don't want to support the blood diamond market. maybe they prefer the superior brilliance and fire a moisannite stone has compared to a diamond.

even then, ANY ring isn't, and shouldn't be considered, a fake engagement ring. many people choose sapphires, rubies, emeralds, pearls, topaz, plain gold/silver, etc. it is an engagement ring if it is given and accepted as such.

please don't pay attention to the other answerers. you choose which you like better, not what others deem "real". i say, it's real if it goes on my finger and i can feel it there!

btw, diamonds have only been "traditional" since the 50' or so. And it was a diamond company that said so ,trying to increase sales. So give yourselves a pat on the back for buying into marketing ploys.

Engagement Rings?

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Im just wondering if anyone has ever heard of or bought from Northstar Moissanite it is an online jewlery store I just want to know if it is lagit or is it a scam?

Hi there! I'm a fan of moissanite as well, but I've never heard of Northstar…..why not check out these sites? I've bought from most of them and they all have really good return policies.

http://bellajewelryco.com/
http://www.moissanitediamond.com/ (my favorite site)

Hope this helps :) Congrats!

P.S. If you don't want to buy online, check out Macy's, Mervyn's and Kohls. They sell moissanite jewelry as well, but it can get pretty pricey…

what would you think is your boyfriend gave an engagement ring with a moissanite (fake) diamond?

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

My boyfriend proposed to me 2 weeks ago and my ring was too big so we had to take it to a jeweler and the jeweler said it was a "moissanite" which it means it is not a diamond. My boyfriend kept saying it was and that the jeweler was wrong, so we left.
What will you think if this happened to you?
Would you tell him something?
How will you feel?

I wouldn't have a problem with the ring, as it's just a symbol. I love my e-ring, but would have been happy with a twist-tie!

I WOULD be worried that your BF lied about it - is he self-conscious that he couldn't afford a real diamond? (not a big deal IMO) Did he think you wouldn't say "yes" if it wasn't real?

Does it bother you that it's not real? If not, then sit down with him & tell him so, but find out WHY he lied - because he shouldn't be lying to you about things if he wants to marry you.

I would say this is something you will laugh about in 30 years time when you are both old and ugly. Keep the boy, what is a ring but a piece of metal with a stone? He is not rich, but he want's to be with you. Tell him that it doesn't matter whether is charcoal or moissanite or granite. Just want to be with him.

Women and men what would you do?

Would you like/give a moissanite (fake diamond) as your engagement ring if it was beautiful? Or you ou have to have a diamond?

Honestly it’s not about the ring it’s about loving someone so much that you are ready to spend the rest of your lives together.
A lot of people get mixed up in all the excitement of the ring and the wedding, they tend to forget that this is the rest of your life!

If all you can afford is a fake diamond, but it’s still beautiful get it! Later in life when you are in a better position a real replacement ring can be given on an anniversary and I bet it would mean even more then!!

Moissanite engagement ring??

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Ok, me and my boyfriend have been looking at engagement rings, but we are a very tight budget (we are both in college). I found a 3/4 carrot moissanite solitare on Amazon that was pretty in the picture. It is from Charles and Colvard. Well, I was just wondering if anyone has one and what they think of them. I would only like to hear from people who actually have one. They do have a return policy ( I made sure of that). But please give me your opinions!!
Ok, so I didn't order the princess cut, I read they have alot of color to them. But we went and looked at JC Penny's moissy. and they were gorgeous. But they were a little too expensive, so we are looking online. Has anyone heard of moissaniteco.com or themoissanitelady.com? Please let me know of reputable dealers!!

i don't have one, but i've only ever seen good reviews about them. supposedly they're as beautiful as diamonds. i love my ring, but i was a little upset when i found out how much my husband spent on it! to be sure, look at them, try them on, see if you like it - then get the one on amazon. do what you think is best for the two of you - a beautiful ring doesn't have to be thousands of dollars, it will have the same meaning and significance no matter how much it cost.

Moissanite ring for engagement? What is your experience?

Friday, October 24th, 2008

We are thinking about a moissanite ring for the engagement… I just want to know what other people have experienced with moissanite… I have heard good and bad… in particular that the stone could be grayish or yellow in daylight… is this true and if so does it look horrible… This would be a great alternative for us because we are on a limited budget. There are some really nice styles from Bella Jewelry Co.

My original ring was a 1ct diamond but it was lost and since we didn't have money for another diamond we bought a moissanite, my FIL is a jeweler and he suggested it for us and it is beautiful! I have not had any problems with it at all! Just do your research!

Poll: Diamonds or a non-traditional stone?

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving ladies!

Just for my own curiosity, would you rather have a non-traditional stone (CZ, moissanite, pearl, sapphire, gemstone, etc) or a diamond for your engagement ring?

Diamonds don't interest me and they're overpriced for what you get. I'd much rather have any other stone.

how do I make him know im serious about engagement?

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

My boyfriend and I have been together for about a year. I have a 15 month old daughter from a previous relationship that left me as a single mom before I even had her. mark and I met while i was pregnant and because great friends. he asked me out when she was just 8 weeks old, and its been non stop fireworks ever since. We ahve talked many many times about out mutual desire to get married, and spend our lives together. He already considers himself my daughters father, as she knows no one else to fit this role. We arent really financially set to be MARRIED yet, per se. We are both 25, though he still has 3 semesters of schooling left (he left early, and then decided to go back once we got together). However, I really would love to have that symbol of commitment between the two of us. If he is as serious as he says, and as I believe he is, than i feel like engagement is the appopriate next step. Also, I have a ring picked out, and its a moissanite (much much less than a diamond, nearly as hard, more sparkle, no fear of being a conflict jewel) that is within his budget ($900!!) How do I really let him know that im very serious about being engaged? I dont expect for a wedding until hes done with school, so ill time it out for 2 years.
Weve talked at legth about the engagement, and rings, the wedding, where it would be. I know we are on the same page there. He is waiting for school to be over to propose, where as Ive been burned and burned before and I say if we are really that committed why not declare it to the world, rather than wait?

Ask him if he is serious about marrying you. It’s as simple as that. It sounds like you both ate commited enough and mature enough for it. My husband didn’t propose to me until he was done with school so maybe that is what he’s waiting for? To make sure you guys are both financially ready.
